10. The UAP Connection: Disclosure and Disinformation
10.1 The AARO FY2023 Report
The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) FY2023 report provides the most authoritative government assessment of UAP characteristics. The orb/sphere morphology is the #1 UAP shape, accounting for 25% of all reports. The characteristics are striking:
- "Mostly round, mostly one to four meters, white, silver, translucent, metallic"
- "10,000 to 30,000 feet" altitude
- "Apparent velocities from stationary to Mach two"
- "No thermal exhausts usually detected" — no conventional propulsion
- "Intermittent radar returns, intermittent radio returns, intermittent thermal signatures"
10.2 The December 2017 NYT Article
On December 16, 2017, the New York Times published "Glowing Auras and 'Black Money': The Pentagon's Mysterious U.F.O. Program" by Helene Cooper, Ralph Blumenthal, and Leslie Kean [NYT_2017_AATIP]. The article revealed the existence of AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program), funded with $22 million by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The same day, Tom DeLonge's To The Stars Academy (TTSA) released the Navy UFO videos: Gimbal, FLIR1/Nimitz, and Go Fast. The Navy confirmed the videos' authenticity in September 2019, and the Pentagon officially released them in April 2020.
10.3 The Disclosure Movement
The disclosure movement comprises a network of journalists, scientists, military officers, and politicians who have advocated for UAP transparency:
10.3.1 Journalists
- Leslie Kean — investigative journalist, co-author of the 2017 NYT article, author of "UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go On the Record" (2010)
- Ralph Blumenthal — NYT reporter, co-author of the 2017 article
- Helene Cooper — NYT Pentagon correspondent, co-author of the 2017 article
10.3.2 TTSA / AATIP
- Tom DeLonge — Blink-182 guitarist, TTSA founder, coordinated the December 2017 disclosure
- Luis Elizondo — AATIP director (2010–2017), joined TTSA after resigning from DoD
- Hal Puthoff — VP Science & Technology at TTSA, SRI remote viewing program director, DIRD author
- Chris Mellon — former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, TTSA advisor
10.3.3 Political Figures
- Harry Reid — Senate Majority Leader, secured $22M for AAWSAP/AATIP
- John Podesta — Clinton chief of staff, UFO disclosure advocate
- Dan Sheehan — Harvard constitutional attorney (Pentagon Papers), New Paradigm Institute
10.3.4 Scientists
- Steven Greer — Disclosure Project (2001), 400+ witnesses, National Press Club event
- J. Allen Hynek — Project Blue Book scientific consultant, Close Encounters classification, CUFOS founder
- John E. Mack — Harvard psychiatrist, Pulitzer Prize winner, abduction research
- Avi Loeb — Harvard astronomer, Galileo Project, IM1 spherule recovery
- Beatriz Villarroel — VASCO project, statistical UAP-nuclear test connection
10.3.5 Military Witnesses
- Robert Hastings — "UFOs and Nukes" researcher, 150+ veterans interviewed
- Robert Salas — Malmstrom AFB witness, 10 ICBMs shut down during UFO sighting (1967)
10.4 The Nuclear-UAP Connection
Robert Hastings' research, based on 150+ military veteran interviews, documents a consistent pattern of UAP interest in nuclear weapons facilities. The most significant case is the Malmstrom AFB incident of March 1967, where 10 Minuteman III ICBMs were shut down simultaneously during a UFO sighting. Robert Salas, the deputy crew commander on duty, confirmed the event.
Beatriz Villarroel's VASCO project established a statistical connection: UAP sightings are 68% more likely to occur the day after a nuclear test. This statistical finding suggests that UAPs — whether plasma platforms or otherwise — are attracted to or triggered by nuclear detonations. If UAPs are plasma platforms, the nuclear connection may reflect the electromagnetic effects of nuclear detonations on plasma structures, or the monitoring of nuclear tests by nations operating plasma weapons.
10.5 Historical Cases
