About the Institute About the Research Institute

The Secret Military Technology Research Institute (SMTRI) is an independent, non-governmental research organization dedicated to forensic analysis of classified aerospace programs through open-source intelligence (OSINT) methodology. We aggregate, cross-reference, and analyze declassified government documents to reconstruct hidden technological lineages.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to demystify Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) by scientifically tracing their reported characteristics back to specific, declassified black budget research programs in fusion energy and propulsion physics. We focus on the Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) → Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) → Compact Fusion Reactor (CFR) lineage — a multi-decade research thread spanning Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and Lockheed Martin Skunk Works.

We do not claim to possess classified information. Rather, we aggregate and cross-reference 192 officially released technical papers, patents, and government reports to reveal patterns and lineages that are individually obscured but collectively visible. Our stance is technological determination, not extra-terrestrial speculation.

Research Methodology

Our methodology follows a rigorous five-step OSINT pipeline, ensuring every claim is traceable to a primary source document.

01 // Source Acquisition

We collect declassified documents from official government repositories including DTIC (Defense Technical Information Center), USPTO (patent database), DOE/NNSA document servers, CIA FOIA Reading Room, and congressional records. All 192 source PDFs are publicly available and permanently archived in our document archive.

02 // Text Extraction & Indexing

Each PDF undergoes automated text extraction, producing searchable transcripts indexed in our research database. We build a full-text search index spanning 523 entries (documents, glossary terms, structured data, and FAQ items).

03 // Entity Extraction & Cross-Referencing

We extract named entities (people, organizations, programs, experiments, technologies, patents) from each document and cross-reference them across the corpus. This produces 241 entity dossiers and a 114-node network graph with 387 documented relationships, revealing hidden connections between defense contractors, national laboratories, and oversight bodies.

04 // Timeline Reconstruction

We reconstruct a chronological timeline of 36 key events from 1952 to 2025, tracing the FRC/MTF/CFR research lineage from Project Sherwood through FRX-A/B/C, FRCHX, MAGO, and the Compact Fusion Reactor.

Editorial Standards & Trust Signals

Primary Source Primacy

Every claim on this site cites a declassified government document. We do not rely on secondary reporting or speculation. Citations reference the original PDF filename in our archive.

Technological Determination

We frame UAP/UFO queries in the context of verifiable advanced propulsion research (FRC, MTF, compact fusion). We do not invoke extra-terrestrial hypotheses unless explicitly cited in source documents.

Open Access

All content is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Source documents are declassified under FOIA or similar public release mechanisms. Our data files are machine-readable JSON.

Semantic Disambiguation

We maintain strict terminology: "UFO" → "Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP)", "Aliens" → "Non-Human Intelligence (NHI)" (only when cited), "Crash Retrieval" → "Foreign Material Exploitation (FME)".
